All the Words
Share
I have a very low need to say words. In fact, I would say that I have only so many words that I CAN say in a given day. Sometimes I run out. And then talking to me is like talking to a wall—apologies to everyone who has to deal with me when I’m in this state!
Thankfully, I do seem to be able to access reserve pools of words when there is a real need. For example, going to Quilt Market and Quilt Con, where there is a lot of talking and listening to do (on top of all the looking and touching!)
I went to QuiltCon 2016 in Pasadena, California last week. What a fantastic event! I had a wonderful time. My schedule was pretty packed!
As faculty, I was teaching a full day class on Intermediate Improv and an evening class called The Joy of the Design Wall. I also gave a lecture on “Dyeing Modern Quilts” and moderated two panels, one on “What I Stash and How” and the other on “Copyright and Your Work.” (See my teaching page for class descriptions.)
Because my own teaching schedule was so jam-packed, I didn’t have to opportunity to take any classes, but I was able to go on a special tour of Molly Upton’s quilts (led by the curator of the exhibit), see Gwen Marston’s keynote address (love her!) and I really enjoyed the panel on diversity in the quilting world (you can hear it here).
I also squeezed in some meetings with sponsors, did an interview with Alex Anderson for her internet show, The Quilt Show. Add to that the fact that I had visits from family and friends in the area and you’ll see that I should have been out of words very quickly! But I wasn’t, they just kept coming, perhaps too many of them at times. Oh well, what can you do?

If you want to hear some of my words, check out this week’s episode of the Crafty Planner podcast, where Sandi and I (still a bit slap-happy for all the over-stimulation that is QuiltCon) talk about my creative journey and my Mighty Lucky challenge!
Here's a link to the episode: http://craftyplanner.com/2016/02/29/rossie-podcast/ or subscribe via iTunes.
The podcast is timed to the release of my month as trainer for the Mighty Lucky Quilting Club. My challenge is all about using color in an individual way. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have seen glimpses of my color-palette-making process.
In the challenge, I spell out my whole process. It’s multi-step. It lets you go with your gut, but gives lots of prompts for figuring out what your gut wants! I had a tremendous amount of fun putting words to my process and am so happy this bit of writing is out in the world now.
Mighty Lucky Quilting Club is all about issuing design challenges and pushing quilters a little out of their comfort zone in order to foster growth. The trainers are amazing and I'm so lucky to be included in this group!
You can join at any time. Buy just my month for $5; or the whole year $50. (link to description and sales)
