Lines by Design Quilts by Debbie Grifka
I could not be more excited to share this new book with you all today! It was written by my friend and fellow member of the Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild, Debbie Grifka (AKA Esch House Quilts). I knew Debbie was writing a book last year, but I didn't see any of the projects until last fall when I glimpsed her cover image on a flyer at Quilt Market.

I couldn’t have been more pumped about this image as it immediately told me two things: (1) Debbie’s quilts in this book promised to be exciting and they (2) looked like her work…the very best of her work. I just love it when people get to write THEIR book--a book that clearly and beautifully expresses their voice. When you’ve been in a guild with someone for almost 5 years, you get to know their style pretty well, and this book is so on point for Debbie. Debbie is a master of deceptively simple compositions.
I’ve now seen the whole book and highly recommend that you take a look at the quilts in the book (almost all of them can be seen on this blog hop, links below) and then buy the book online or from your local quilt store.
Debbie has been writing patterns for quite a few years, so her skill at providing clear and concise instructions is pretty great. If you like the look of the quilts, you’ll be happy with the book.
For the blog hop, Debbie asked each of us to look at a different quilt close-up. I was really pleased that I was able to select the cover quilt, Fault Line, as I’m pretty sure I’m its #1 fan.
I love Debbie’s vibrant version, but when I read in the pattern that it’s made from 2-1/2” strips, my mind immediately went to a box I have in my studio that holds all the white, black, and gray strips pulled from various jelly rolls. It has been a box in search of a project, and seeing Fault Line, I knew I had to make a version in shades of gray.
Yes? Yes!
Of course, the trick will be figuring out what to put as that fault line. I have contemplated as few different saturated colors, but I think what I really want is a print with a white background and little bits of rainbow somethings sprinkled about. As it turns out, a fabric matching that description is not currently in my stash, so I'll have to wait until I can find it and buy it!
